Week 12: #2 Blog Entry

What did you do?

Friday: Food and Family Friday (comfortable social interactions with family members-movies, board games, dinner)

Sunday: Sunday Sleeps (a flexible sleep schedule to catch up on energy lost during the week)

Monday: Monday Meditation (a 10-minute ly-down with background music every Monday morning)

Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday (pampering day with baths, facemasks and relaxation)

Chris Holdship:

How did it go?

With the client’s occupational lifestyle taking priority, the schedule has had to become quickly adaptable to abrupt changes within the work environment during the week. All strategies were successfully trialled, however, duration has become a main issue with the program’s integration with the client’s lifestyle; with activities being cut short in application and extent of complexity.

Since Week 1, Chris has enjoyed all strategies, yet other factors from his life have altered his view on enjoyment of each. For ‘Food and Family Friday’, Chris’s enjoyment has declined, as food is strictly monitored and certain comfort or favourite foods are taken away due to the dietary elements of the strategy. Sunday Sleeps has become more enjoyable as a frequent sleep schedule are just what he needs after a non-stop week of working. Monday Meditation has rapidly increased in personal enjoyment in combination with Sunday Sleeps; the two peaceful activities together making for a very relaxing weekend to combat the strains of work. Wacky Wednesdays have declined in enjoyment as Chris has a busy personal life and does not enjoy relaxing for too long in favor of being productive with free time.

How did you feel?

A little bit stressed myself, as so many changes have had to take place in order to maintain an accurate monitoring of Chris’s mindfulness progress. Yet, clashes with other aspects of the lifestyle was to be expected and solutions are currently in progress. Activities were still able to enact their positive and enlightening headspace despite sudden changes to duration and complexity.

How was the client feeling? Client feedback.

Chris found the second week a lot more challenging to fully commit to as the workplace has become more stressful and central to directing his personal life recently.

Chris: Definitely harder, but was still an enjoyable week.

Was it successful? Why?

Despite strenuous changes to the mindfulness program, its flexibility eased some of the lingering stress brought on by Week 2 and has given the client some enjoyable memories during the stressful week.

What changes need to occur?

For future weeks, complexity and duration should be shortened to allow for more personal free time (that isn’t monitored) or even adding a combination of strategies together in one day; this way, all strategies are attempted and mindfulness steadily improves alongside the ever-changing lifestyle of the client.
